Behind the design
Peek into the KiwiCo product design studio and the design process behind the Eureka Crate Trashketball.
- Our first prototype was a rounded can with a clip-on hoop and backboard. The can was held together with two long elastic bands and looked almost like a drum. Though this design was fun and functional, we wanted to add more features to up the excitement.
Early Design
- To make the next design more intriguing, we redesigned it so the backboard folded down to be the lid of the trashcan. But that raised the question, "How do you open the lid?" This prototype tried using a foot pedal to work the hinges. We eventually decided a spring-loaded latch would work best.
Refined Design
- As we continued to refine the product, the hoop design also changed. This prototype is close to the final Trashketball game (check out the O-rings that replaced the elastic band!), but it still has a wood rim. We switched to the plastic orange rim to give it a splash of color.
