Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
I drew a few pictures on some heavy-duty paper. (Your kids can do this step of course.) I wanted Emma (age 5) to really focus on putting together the mosaic, so I thought starting the first step for her would allow her to enjoy adding the seeds more.
Step 2
This was a perfect evening craft. It was calm and quiet. We used pumpkin and sunflower seeds, so Emma was snacking along the way. A nice healthy evening snack.
Step 3
She was really focused. I loved how she thought about each seed placement. It was really neat to see.
Final result!
She finished the owl and moved onto the sunflower. They both came out so beautiful. I thought this would be a nice project to make as cards for the family. Please beware: If you are looking for a nice place for this to dry, do not choose your yard full of chipmunks. Um, yes....we learned this the hard way, but just another excuse to make more mosaics the next day!
