Bring outer space into your home with some paint, construction paper, and an old toothbrush!

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

    Gather your materials.

  • Tip

    Missing supplies? Get them from the KiwiCo Store!

  • Step 2

    Use circular objects to trace the outline of planets on your cardstock or construction paper. You can use white or colored paper.

  • Step 3

    Use the paint to add a pattern for your planet, we are making Saturn! We are using yellow, white and brown for the stripes. No reason to paint in the lines since we’ll cut them out later!

  • Step 4

    While your paint is drying, use the old toothbrush to flick white paint on the black construction paper to make a starry space background.

  • Step 5

    Once your planets are dry, cut them out!

  • Step 6

    Paste your planets onto your background using a glue stick or sticky foam.

  • Step 7

    Paint on any final touches, like Saturn's rings or a rocket ship!
