Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

Gather your materials. Start by cutting two pieces of yarn: one 5-inch piece and one 30-inch piece. Set them aside. Later, you’ll use them to secure the pom-pom and serve as your necklace string.

  • Step 2

Start winding the yarn around the pom-pom winder. Don’t wrap it too tightly or it may be difficult to remove from the winder later. When your pom-pom is as big as you want it to be, take the 5-inch piece of yarn and tie it around the middle. (You can also use a fork to make a mini one!)

  • Step 3

Pull the yarn off the pom-pom winder (or fork). Take scissors and cut both ends of the looped yarn. (A grown-up may need to help here.) As you do this, make sure not to cut the piece of yarn that was used to tie the middle.

Now take the long, 30-inch string, loop it through the pom-pom, and tie the ends together. Pull it over your head. Your necklace is ready to wear!
