Step 1
Fold your paper in half and unfold it. Plop the paint down in the center of the paper. The thicker the paint goes on, the better. This was such a fun way to experiment with paint! She kept mixing the colors to discover what new colors she could make. We used a paint brush to apply the paint, but you could also use a craft stick or a spoon to put it on.
Step 2
I knew she'd have fun with the paint, but I didn't realize what a vocabulary builder this project would be. Words like below, near, under, middle, beneath, between, etc. seemed to come up a lot in our conversation while we were crafting. Once you have all of your paint in the center, fold the paper in half. Press down firmly and rub or push the paint from the center toward the outside of the paper. You can also use a rolling pin to push the paint toward the edge for a fun twist.
Step 3
Unfold the paper to discover what has happened with the paint.
Step 4
She was so surprised. "Look! It's on this side too!".
Final result!
"It's a giant cupcake!" she decided. We talked about how it looks the same on each side, which makes it symmetrical, and then we tried it again. So much fun and learning with paint!
