Cork Animal

Sculpting, building and creating with new materials is a fun way to be creative and use the wonderful power of imagination. Putting a few new things in front of my children always surprises me in the best way. I love seeing what they create.

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

I gathered a few things that I thought would work well to build and create with. Next, I passed it off to my 5-year old and waited to see what she would come up with.

  • Step 2

She started experimenting with different ways to put these together. A younger child would probably need some help with the skewers. Emma added four skewers to create legs on a little cork creature.

  • Step 3

She worked hard to get her animal stable, positioning the legs so it could stand on it's own. It took a few tries, but she enjoyed working at it. Once she had the form built she added a fun face with dried peas and googley eyes. She even added a pipe cleaner tail to one.

  • Final result!

These reminded me of a building set I had when I was young, with round blocks and sticks to hold them together. I loved building and creating with them. I see much more cork building happening in our future!
