Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
My children think it's fun to make bread, so we always opt for making it ourselves! Use a canned ready-made, if you prefer.
Step 2
First we made the dough. If you do choose to make your own, mix 2 1/4 teaspoons of yeast into 1 cup very warm water, stirring to dissolve. Then add 2 3/4 cups of flour, one teaspoon of salt, and one tablespoon olive oil into the mixer.
Step 3
We added in the yeast and water. We mixed it up well, and let it work under the dough hook for about three minutes, 'till it was smooth and elastic. Then Maddie oiled a mixing bowl. We put the dough in it, covered it with a dish towel, and let it rise for an hour.
Step 4
If you're not making your own dough, start here with your ready-made. We cut up mozzarella cheese and pepperoni and preheated the oven to 400º.
Step 5
We took a walnut-sized piece of dough, spread it with our fingers, and placed in a cube of cheese and some pepperoni. We sealed the dough, then placed them seam-side down on a greased pie pan.
Step 6
When we had filled all the dough, we mixed 1/4 cup olive oil, one teaspoon garlic powder, and a teaspoon of fresh oregano in a bowl. (You could also add basil and parsley if you like.)
Step 7
Then we brushed the oil onto the filled dough and sprinkled grated Parmesan cheese over them.
Step 8
We usually have 12-16 balls of dough in each pie pan. If you're freezing some (not here, not today!), then cover them now, and put them in the freezer. Otherwise, put them in the 400-degree oven for 16-20 minutes!
Step 9
When they look oh-so-yummy, take them out and put a bit of marinara sauce in a dish, for dipping.
Done!
Mmmmmmm-mm! Maybe next time you'll want to double, so you have enough for the freezer!
