Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
We have been doing a lot of math practice around our house. With a new kindergartener and a curious two-year-old at home, we like to count a lot. To make these flash cards, I found a box of blank note cards and drew numbers 1-10 on each of them. (Your kids can get in some number-writing practice by doing this step.)
Step 2
Once our cards were all numbered, my children dug through our art supplies to find and count out little trinkets for each card. We used coins, stickers, beads and googly eyes. They enjoyed the hunt for the trinkets and adding each to the correct card with lots of glue! We usually over glue in this house. I am guessing that will go on for a few more years.
Step 3
Once our cards were dry we counted some more, practiced some math, and got familiar with each number. Of course we also admired the pretty cards and all the different textures on each one.
Final result!
This darling deer number one is my favorite. Emma likes the butterflies on number six. Each card has a personal touch. I hope we can keep them around for awhile. Over the summer we also made a set to give as a birthday gift. We love giving homemade gifts!
