Behind the design
Peek into the KiwiCo product design studio and the design process behind the Eureka Crate Articulated Desk Lamp.
- Of course, we wanted our lampshade to do a good job directing the light, but we also wanted it to not be boring. So we were excited to discover that adding little cut-outs at the corners created a cool color gradient effect when the lamp was on.
Made in the Shade
- The bulbs we picked for our lamp were originally designed to be used for camping trips, not desks, but they met our requirements for something that was both durable and USB-powered. Here, we're testing bulbs for brightness and warmth.
The Right Bulb for the Job
- To develop the instructions, we took advantage of our chalkboard wall to map out how the steps would be broken out. The illustrator and writer went through an entire sticky note cube, several sticks of chalk, and about 12 cups of coffee to get it right!
Taking it Step-by-Step
- What was the hardest thing about this project?Making the arm. It wasn’t that hard, but it was the same thing over and over.
- What would you change if you could?Maybe to tell people what the pieces are for as you build them?
- What was your favorite thing?Definitely seeing how the levers move! I was wondering how they were going to work.
