It’s been a long year of unexpected challenges and changes, but through it all, the pint-sized problem solvers in our KiwiCo community have inspired us with their creativity and resilience. At KiwiCo, we believe learning should be fun, hands-on, and packed with opportunities for kids to explore, build, and discover. But how well can our crates fit into a classroom? A <a href="https://jscholarship.library.jhu.edu/items/8196b8fa-2c4e-411e-afe1-c1fb13840bfc">new study from the Center for Research and Reform in Education at Johns Hopkins University</a> offers some exciting insights!Educators across a large suburban school district implemented KiwiCo learning crates in their classrooms and shared their experiences. One of my kids’ favorite plush toys is a stuffed kiwi that my husband and I had picked up from New Zealand years ago. As we were running through potential names, it struck me that Kiwi (as he’s called) would make the perfect mascot for our company.

Why the name “Kiwi Crate?”

Every year, we celebrate teachers for all the amazing work they do in inspiring the next generation of innovators. This year in particular, we wanted to recognize teachers who have gone above and beyond for their students, while navigating new challenges that come with distance learning. So, we launched the Awesome Teacher Award as a way for our community to share stories about the incredible teachers in their lives.
We received hundreds of applications for our Awesome Teacher Award, and after careful consideration, we selected five exceptional winners! These teachers are not only awesome, but they also embody KiwiCo’s mission and values. They will receive awards of $2,000 in KiwiCo products and $500 in cash.

In case you haven’t seen it, Kiwi Crate’s kid-centered product testing program was featured in today’s&nbsp;Wall Street Journal.

I’ll start with a personal confession: one of my (many) struggles as a parent is how to involve my kids more in community service and raise their awareness of causes and issues in the world around them. From talking to friends in our community and all the other parents on our team, I know I’m not alone. We all want to raise our kids to be kind, concerned and empathetic citizens – but the actual execution of getting involved is so daunting! How do I find a cause that they would understand and find relevant, a volunteer activity that’s appropriate (and welcoming) for kids, and fit it into our busy schedules??

Have you heard of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Flat_Stanley_Project">The Flat Stanley Project</a>? It was created in Canada by Dale Hubert in 1995 as a way to engage his 3rd grade students in literacy, geography, and social studies. Kids cut out and color a fictional character named Stanley, then mail him to a friend. One may have arrived at your house from a friend who lives far away… or you may have supported your kiddo in finding a distant friend or relative to ship her Flat Stanley off to.
Stanleys have traveled all over the world this way!
