Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
If you don't have fancy paper for this, by all means use construction paper for the spiral, and draw or paint your own butterflies.
Step 2
Maddie chose the paper for her spiral, and after making it into a circle, she started making the spiral. She just started at one side, and cut her way into the center.
Step 3
The paper she chose was printed on only one side, so she opted to make the other side fancy, as well. (This could be done before the cutting.)
Step 4
To make the butterflies, she outlined the shapes, and cut them out.
Step 5
She made some three-dimensional by making a small butterfly, then tracing a larger image of it onto a second pattern of paper.
Step 6
She punched holes near the top of the butterflies and on the mobile, and tied thread ends to each.
Final result!
See the way they flutter! Oh, we're so happy it's Spring!
