Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
Starting with a paper roll of any size, punch holes along the back and sides of the top. I did about an inch width of holes to allow for lots of yarn hair. Cut your yarn 8-12" (20.3-30.5 cm) long and thread each piece through two holes and knot in place. My daughter helped by cutting each yarn strand for me and handing them to me as I threaded. She was really excited to watch the doll come together.
Step 2
Next your child can decorate the front of the roll to really turn her into someone special. I didn't reveal to Emma that she would be cutting this hair. I just said we were making a doll.
Step 3
We used scraps of paper and googly eyes to make this adorable doll.
Step 4
And there they are. They came out really sweet and all the yarn hair was so beautiful. Emma was happy just to have these special homemade dolls just the way they were.
Final result!
Next, I set up a little salon complete with waiting room and handed her a spray bottle (empty) and some kid safe-scissors and let her cut some hair! She was so excited she didn't believe me when I told her to cut it, but it didn't take long for her to dive right in!
