Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
Gather your materials!
Step 2
To make this paint, we did a little cooking. While my pre-schooler helped with measurements, I took care of anything near the stove. First, add four tablespoons of cornstarch to a small pot. While mixing, slowly add water little by little until a paste forms with the cornstarch.
Step 3
Now, the grownup step. Separately boil a cup of water separately and add it to the pot. Stir the mixture until there are no more clumps. While continuously stirring, heat the mixture over medium heat for a couple minutes until it thickens into a pudding-like consistency. Remove from heat and let cool until it warm, but not hot.
Step 4
We wanted to paint with a bunch of different colors so we portioned out the mixture into individual cups. Add a few (about 3) drops of food coloring to create your colors! You can also experiment with color mixing to create orange, green, and purple.
Final result!
As we began to paint, we also used this opportunity to practice color matching with pieces of cut fruit, some of the fruit even ended up in our painting for a fun mixed-media look!
