Father's Day Collage Ties

Father's Day is a great time to show Dad how much you love him with homemade gifts. We love these Father's Day collage ties because they let the kids pick as many gifts for Dad as they want and create a truly unique and personalized gift. My kids are so excited to give these to their Dad and show him all the things they picked out for him!

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

Gather all materials. I like to also let the kids use circulars from the mail and other advertisements that come out around Father's Day. There are always some great options in there.

  • Step 2

I made this with all of my kids so I drew a basic outline of a tie to use as a template and then let the kids trace a tie of their own. I had to help my 2-year-old with this part.

  • Step 3

Then, the kids cut their ties out. This was great scissor practice for my 4-year-old since we used simple straight lines to make our ties.

  • Step 4

After the ties were cut, we used markers and crayons to decorate the ties. I encouraged the kids to use their Dad's favorite colors and to decorate them with different designs.

  • Step 5

The fun part came when we started looking for pictures of things that the kids would like to buy their Dad if they had all the money in the world. The kids went through magazines and advertisements and cut out pictures of camping equipment, grills, cars, vacation homes, sports equipment, and all sorts of fun gifts.

  • Step 6

We made a collage of all of their favorite gifts by gluing the pictures onto the ties.

To personalize the ties, we glued pictures of the kids to one side and wrote Happy Father's Day on them.

If you wanted these to last, you could use contact paper to laminate them. I love seeing the difference between the kids and what gifts they would pick for their Dad. I know it will be a special keepsake that he will treasure because it really shows how much they know and love him.
