Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
I started by creating a set of safety rule cards that my son would have to answer yes or no to. (Click on the photo to see a bigger version.)
Step 2
Then we started to create the game board. We create a curvy path all over the inside of a file folder. He was in charge of adding the red stickers and I added the green stickers. I stopped him every once and awhile to add in a green sticker. The green stickers were questioning answering spots. I added ten question (green spots) to the game board.
Step 3
Then I had my son add some Halloween-themed stickers to the game to give the board some pizzazz.
Step 4
The safety rules were glued to orange construction paper and put in a pumpkin cup. I also dug out a foam die to use with the game.
Final result!
We took turns rolling the die to see how many dots we could move forward. If we landed on a red dot, we stopped to answer a safety question. If we landed on a green dot, we got a break from answering a question. The first person to the last dot was the winner.
We had such a great time with this game. My son asked that we bring it with us to a local restaurant to play while we waited for our food. I think by the time Halloween comes, he will have the rules down pat.
