New Year's Eve Surprise Popper

New Year's Eve has never been so fun! These festive poppers are easy to make, and kids love cracking them open to reveal goodies and trinkets.

My daughter loved making these for her friends--and of course she loved breaking them open! This project is a great way to get your kid involved in party planning for the new year!

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

First, we got together some empty rolls. You can use toilet paper tubes or (if you're like us) cut paper towel tubes in half.

  • Step 2

We found all sorts of festive treasures to fill up our tubes. Stickers and fun erasers seemed to be a favorite this year.

  • Step 3

My daughter's an avid gift wrapper (sometimes she wraps things for me that are mine!)--so she loved wrapping up each tube.

  • Step 4

Next, we closed one end with some ribbon...

...then filled up the other end with trinkets. (This step was a fun task for my two-year-old).

  • Step 6

Then my five-year-old wrapped up the other end. There you have it: so simple, easy, and--most of all--so much fun!

  • Done!

They were ready to be cracked open and we definitely had to test one out!
