Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
We poured the chocolate morsels into the bowl. One could use a double broiler to melt the morsels, but we opt for the preschool-friendly microwave. The packaging on our chocolate chips instructs to melt the chocolate on high for 45 seconds, and if needed, again in 15 seconds increments.
Step 2
To get an even coat of chocolate on the marshmallows, stick the marshmallows on skewers and dip them into the chocolate rotating until all sides are coated.
Step 3
Our final products before placing them in the refrigerator are almost irresistible. My daughter refers to the treats as "Topham Hatts." I guess she has more of a context for the railway controller of the Island of Sodor than a mythical Irish fairy.
Step 4
Next, we placed the marshmallows on the cookies using a dab of melted chocolate to connect the two parts. This worked well because we wanted to decorate them with green and yellow candies. The excess chocolate around the base allowed the candies to sit and set nicely acting as a hatband.
Final result!
After a healthy dinner, the kids eagerly enjoy our creation! Are you celebrating St Patrick's Day in any special way?
