Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

Divide a rectangular piece of white paper into 10 even sections. In each section draw a different number of hearts, 1 - 10.

  • Step 2

Next, you'll need 10 clothespins and 10 hearts (use precut foam hearts or cut your own out of colored cardstock). Write the numbers 1 - 10 on each heart. Glue one heart to each clothespin.

When your glue is dry you're ready to play with your Valentine's clothespin counting card. Have your child count the number of hearts in each section of the card and attach the corresponding clothespin. We turned it into a game by putting all the clothespins in a container, giving them a shake, and picking a clothespin without looking. My girls ages 3 and 5 really enjoyed this activity and it is so great for practicing their numbers.
