Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

We spent time together coloring paper plates. This was his favorite part. He asked for more plates twice.

Then we picked the plates we wanted to turn into puzzles. This was my big chance to sneak in a little talk about fractions. My kids are young so I just mentioned it and moved on. "How many pieces do you want this puzzle to be? Three? Ok I'll cut it into thirds."

Then we spent time putting the puzzles together. The puzzles with stripes and polka dots turned out to be the most challenging and the solid plates were the easiest.

Depending on the age of your child, you can give them the pieces to just one puzzle at a time or for a big challenge put all of the pieces in one big pile. I loved how simple this activity was to put together and the quality time we had while we did it.
