This month, you and your baby will explore:
attention & focus
Your little one’s attention span is growing, and they’re looking to you to show them the way — literally! Babies pay attention to the same objects as their parents, so when your eyes wander during play, so do theirs. Help them focus by minimizing distractions and really tuning in during play.
cause and effect
Your little explorer is learning that certain actions have predictable results. Encouraging them to press buttons to make toys sing or push their trains to make them move will help them understand they have the power to make things happen!
fine motor & finger control
Your baby is discovering just how mighty their little fingers are, especially when it comes to pinching objects between their thumbs and forefingers. Help build those muscles and coordination during meal time by experimenting with finger foods and exploring utensils.
independent play
Encouraging your little one to explore independently gives them a chance to experiment and figure things out on their own — important for building confidence and resilience as they grow older!
logic & reasoning
Your baby’s brain is hard at work, and you may notice exciting changes as they problem-solve during play. They’re figuring out how things go together and learning by experimenting on their own and watching you.
object permanence
If you’ve noticed an uptick in separation anxiety, it may be because your baby has begun to understand that things (and people!) are still there, even if they’re out of sight. Your little one is learning to look for things that disappear, so now is the perfect time for peekaboo and seek-and-find games!
spatial awareness
Your baby has been developing this essential skill almost from birth. At this age, blocks and nesting cups are great toys for spatial concepts. So is hearing plenty of positional vocabulary (above, under, around, next to ) to understand where objects are in space.
tracking
Your little one is seeing clearly now and getting really good at focusing on moving targets. At this stage, babies love looking at objects in motion. So if your child is looking for entertainment, don’t be surprised if their new go-to includes dropping food, utensils, or anything else from their high chair.
