Step 1
When I put new materials out on the art table, especially those that are not a real art material, the interest level jumps to a new high! Coffee beans were especially exciting on this day. My five-year-old thought they were so fun to smell, count and feel.
Step 2
We used these little bean treasures to create a yummy-smelling candle to give as holiday gifts. Tacky glue is a must, since it's strong enough to hold the beans on the candle and keep them there while your little one works. It was neat to see how focused my daughter got during this craft. I swear those beans were magical! She just loved working with them.
Step 3
She also found some other items to add to the candles. They came out so pretty and smelling so delicious that we ended up making several batches of these over the holidays. My children get so excited to give someone a gift they have made. They are so proud and happy and I love that they see how special something is that they make themselves.
Final result!
While our candles were drying, Emma found another use for coffee beans. They made the perfect chocolate chip in her play dough cookies. We now always keep a bag of coffee beans in our art cabinet!
