Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

Cut your empty cereal box to size. (I cut out a 5" x 7" (12.7 x 17.8 cm) rectangle so that the final masterpiece could be framed.)

  • Step 2

Draw your design. Or better yet, have your kids draw a fun design.

  • Step 3

With a hammer and nail, poke holes all along the drawing. I suggest spacing out the holes about 1/4" to 3/8" (.64 to 1 cm) apart.

    Tip

Make sure to have some padding underneath the cardboard to protect your work surface. I just padded the 5"x7" cardboard with another piece of cardboard.

  • Step 4

Pull out your colored yarn and thread up your needle. (My girls used a plastic needle, which had a large eye for them to thread.)

  • Step 5

Tie a knot at the end and start stitching from the back of the card. Pull the needle up and down to connect the dots.

These stitch cards are perfect to keep tucked in the car for long trips or even in your on-the-go bag as a quick and quiet activity.
