Homemade Aqua Sand

Build sand sculptures underwater with this magical, aqua sand recipe. The best part is that the sand comes back out of the water dry. That way you can play underwater or land for hours of fun! It's up to you with this simple-to-make aqua sand.

  • Step 1

    Gather your materials!

  • Step 2

    In a well ventilated area, lay out some sand on a piece of wax paper. Spray fabric protector over the sand until it is damp. Mix it around with a stirring stick so that the sand is evenly coated. Wait about 20 minutes for it to dry.

    We applied a second coat to make sure it was fully saturated.

  • Step 3

    Once the sand is dry, transfer it into pouring cups.

    We had some clumps in our stand, so we broke them up with a stirring stick.

  • Final result!

    Fill a large container with water and get ready to start playing!

    Pour the sand into the water and see what happens. We had so much fun trying to make cool shapes and building towers.

    When you are done playing with the sand in the water, carefully pour out the water and lay it on a paper towel. Let it dry for a few minutes and then you can keep playing!
