What is tummy time?
Tummy time refers to the time your baby spends on their stomach while they are awake and supervised. These sessions are important for your baby’s motor, visual, and sensory development!
Benefits of tummy time:
- Develops your baby's neck, core, and shoulder muscles
- Improves motor skills
- Prevents skull deformations
- Helps meet developmental milestones
How tummy time works:
- Set up a soft, safe space with a blanket or tummy time mat, and lay your baby down on their stomach.
- Engage your baby with toys, pictures, or by showing them your face (we like playing peek-a-boo!).
- For newborns, aim for 2-3 sessions a day for 3-5 minutes at a time.
- If your baby gets cranky about it, start for a minute or so until they get used to it, then work your way up.

What do our product designers have to say?
“I got the idea because it’s something I wish I had had as a new parent! The gentle slope helps prevent the baby from face-planting on their play mat and makes them more comfortable as they build their tiny muscles – two things that make tummy time way more enjoyable for both the grownup and the baby!”
How to use the Tummy Time Pillow
- Start
- For face-to-face bonding time with your baby, lay them on their back on the pillow. The gentle slop lifes their head and makes eye contact with you easier. Plus, your arms and back get a break!
- Explore
- After your baby gains more head control, prop them up with their belly on the pillow for tummy time. Make sure your baby's shoulders are higher than their hips and their arms are out in front.
- Grow
- As your little one grows, attach high-contrast toys to the lops to encourage visual focus, reaching, and grasping. Keep up with tummy time until they are rolling over and spending time on their stomach independently – usually around 6 months old.
